The Mind Is Not a Vessel to Be Filled
Almost 2,000 years ago, Plutarch already knew what good learning feels like. His idea is at the heart of our project.

“The mind is not a vessel to be filled, but a fire to be kindled.” — After Plutarch
This famous line is a paraphrase of a passage from Plutarch’s essay On Listening, written almost 2,000 years ago. His point: a student’s mind does not need to be filled like a bottle — it needs a spark that makes it want to think by itself and look for the truth.
Filling notebooks vs. living an experience
Too often, learning still looks like filling a vessel: slides, notes, exams, repeat. Students copy, memorize — and forget. The comments we collected from students online say it clearly: “all they do is showing a PowerPoint that was also uploaded online and read off it.”
Kindling a fire
What kindles the fire is different: a question you are free to ask, an answer that fits you, a teacher who takes the time. That is exactly what great teachers do — and exactly what most students do not get often enough.
Our belief
Learning isn’t about filling notebooks. It’s about living an experience.
That is why our avatars are designed to talk with students, not at them: you ask, they answer, you ask again — face to face, in your own language, without judgment.
